Where is bluestone found?

Bluestone is sandstone that is quarried in Northeast Pennsylvania and the Catskill Mountain region of New York State.

Is bluestone always blue?

Although bluestone often is blue, it is not limited to just the blue color. Bluestone can come in a variety of colors from green, gray, reddish brown to lilac. Natural striations, also known as movement, can occur enhancing the natural beauty of the stone.

How do I get a sample of stone?

Samples have to be requested through your local distributor.

What is the tolerance in dimension for Natural Cleft Pattern?

1/4″ is the standard acceptable tolerance in the industry.

What are the typical sizes in Natural Cleft pattern?

11 1/2 x 11 1/2 to 23 1/2 x 35 1/2 going up in 6″ increments. The 1/2″ is to allow for the mortar joint.

What colors does Natural Cleft come in?

Colors are typically Blue, Lilac, Full Color and Earth Tones. Full color consists of every color, Blue, Gray, Lilac, Rust, Gunmetal and Green. Earth Tones consists of Gray, Green and Gunmetal.

How much does Bluestone weigh?

On average, 1″ thick bluestone weighs 14 pounds per sqaure foot. 1 1/2″ thick bluestone weighs 21 pounds per square foot. etc…

Can Natural Cleft Bluestone be used in interior applications?

Tompkins is excited to offer our new natural cleft gauged, brushed tile for interior applications. This allows the user to bring the beauty of Natural Cleft Bluestone inside. The product is treated with diamond brushes that smooth the surface which allows it to accept silicon impregnator. It also gives it a nice surface to walk on without changing its natural appearance.

What is the difference between Natural Cleft and Thermal surface?

A Natural Cleft surface is split on the natural seams of the stone and has a +/- 1/8″ textured surface. A Thermal surface is accomplished by using a propane and oxygen torch. Thermal finish texture is more consistent than a Natural Cleft finish.

What hours are you open?

Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and loading/dock hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM and Friday 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

Can I visit your stone yard and facility?
